City living requires creative, attractive and inexpensive ways to address privacy concerns without losing access to outdoor light. The beveled, stained and decorative cut-glass look can be had with window film from Artscape.My place is a showcase for the brand. We’ve used the Etched Leaf pattern for light privacy like back-stair door and basement windows, and the Clematis design for heavy-duty privacy (see pic) in the shower window. It’s also a quick-and-dirty solution to art and play spaces; you can hide clutter without completely blocking what the space is used for (see pic for side-by-side comparison).I agree with other reviewers that cutting exactly to size or creating a pinhole opening doesn’t allow the squeegee to press out all the bubbles. For fine-tuning of cuts, you’ll need either a steady hand and an X-acto knife, or a paper cutter to make those micro-fine adjustments because scissors won’t “cut” it. Following the same application guidelines, I have found that a soapy paper towel works better and is less messy than the spray bottle technique. Also, flatten the film, design side down (pic), to eliminate the curl for better measuring and cutting to size.The product has staying power. The Clematis bath window covering has maintained its hold and color for more than two years despite being subjected to daily heat and humidity from the shower. Likewise, the back stairs door film has weathered extreme hot and cold temps with nary a ripple.Artscape is expensive and comes in inconvenient sizes, but the ease of use, the selections and durability make this a worthwhile and five-star purchase.
